A well-chosen grout, applied properly and maintained, can make a whole lot of difference to your tiles. It can either enhance the beautiful look of the tiles or limit their potential. So the question is, which grout will you choose and how will you get the most out of it?
Not so long ago the only option was grey, which is the same colour of cement. Whether you were using red terracotta tiles or white wall tiles, grey was all there was to use. Now, consumers have more options to choose from. Tile adhesive manufactures are now producing grout in many different colours. Thus, allowing you to find just the right colour to complement your tiles.
With so many colours available, choosing the right colour may present some challenges. It’s always best to use grout samples to compare against your tiles first before deciding on the colour. However, you may find the 3 principles below helpful.
This is a safe option which enables the whole tiled area to look seamless. The grout lines become less visible and it can enhance the character of the tiles. Furthermore, this is a good option if you want the area to have a seamless look and you want the tiles to be the highlight of the area.
You may choose to use a contrasting colour if you want the joints to stand out. You can enhance the unique layout or pattern of the tiles through this method. It’s a popular way when using mosaic tiles and decorative tiles.
Using a neutral coloured grout may be the safest option if it’s difficult to find the right colour. Avoid brilliant white or black which can easily get dirty. Choose beige, grey or brown based colours.
We recommend sealing your grout to keep it looking new. It reduces the porosity which makes it resistant to stains and discolouring.
